The aim of this unit is to provide an opportunity for students to acquire an understanding of
robots and an ability to use them for industrial applications. The first outcome focuses on the
key elements of industrial robots and how they are linked together as a system. The second
outcome is concerned with the programming of robots, and after investigating various
programming methods students will prepare and demonstrate a program for a robot. The final
outcome covers the design of an eff'cient and safe robot cell and the factors which must be
taken into account when selecting, installing and operating industrial robots.
